Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records, reports, and data for programs to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
Oversee financial reporting and compliance with government regulations.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders regarding financial matters.
Lead governmental and other funding source audits.
Manage organization-wide cost allocation plans and oversee program budgets.
Forecast fiscal outcomes and collaborate with program leaders to manage contracts and grants.
Assist in developing grant and contract budgets for new and existing funding opportunities.
Support the Vice President of Finance in the annual budgeting process.
Oversee all accounting records to ensure compliance with policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Facilitate annual independent audits.
Direct operational procedures for accounting and payroll functions.
Manage month-end closing processes, working closely with staff accountants and accounts payable/receivable specialists.
Review and approve bank reconciliations, ensuring timely accounts receivable collection.
Oversee cash management, including disbursement approvals and credit line assessments.
Maintain and improve financial processes as the organization evolves.
Ensure compliance with federal and state reporting requirements.
Supervise and support finance team members, fostering their professional development.
Ensure staff receive necessary training and stay up to date on regulatory requirements.
Lead by example with strong professional ethics, communication, and collaboration.
Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations within the finance department.
Address any performance concerns in alignment with organizational policies.
Foster effective communication between finance and other departments.
Participate in organizational committees to enhance program initiatives.
Stay informed on industry trends and best practices by attending relevant conferences.
Adapt to evolving programs and policies while taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
8–10 years of related experience, with a preference for nonprofit sector experience.
Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and financial systems.
