Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) is seeking Entry Level Firefighter Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics. No prior firefighting skills, experience, or fire education is required. Successful candidates will undergo twelve (12) months of probation. Firefighters will learn, demonstrate knowledge of, and perform various operations and skills essential for proficiency on an engine, truck, squad, or other specialty apparatus. This includes performing mechanical operations, maintaining equipment, and being able to work under hazardous and stressful conditions.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range: \(83,929.56 - \)111,538.44
  • Hourly rates based on experience:
    • Step 1: $40.35/hourly
    • Step 2: $43.52/hourly
    • Step 3: $47.15/hourly
    • Step 4: $50.28/hourly
    • Step 5: $53.62/hourly
  • Pay premium for paramedics and additional compensation for certifications

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of FireTeam test and Public Safety Self-Assessment 1
  • Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT)
  • No criminal conviction that prevents certification from DPSST and Oregon Health Authority

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
