Skills

  • Broad knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management requirements
  • Solid understanding of chemistry, biochemistry, and/or related environmental sciences
  • Familiarity with federal and state environmental laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of applicable Executive Orders and DOE Orders related to environmental protection
  • Detailed technical knowledge in relevant areas (transuranic waste management, remote-handled waste management)
  • Knowledge of instruments/equipment used in environmental and waste management
  • Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste and RCRA regulations
  • Knowledge of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a field-deployed Waste Services Representative
  • Act as the primary interface with research and operations organizations and environmental/waste management programs
  • Assist waste generators in identifying and characterizing waste, excess materials, and recyclables
  • Support proper waste management in compliance with regulations and company requirements
  • Help develop waste sampling plans and prepare waste characterization data packages
  • Sign and submit waste documentation for review
  • Assist in identifying waste packaging requirements
  • Contribute to pollution prevention initiatives
  • Participate in organizational reviews, assessments, and surveillances related to waste and excess materials management

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in a science or engineering discipline
  • Five (5) years of relevant environmental and/or waste management experience (DOE environment preferred)
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Prior experience working with a specific organization and familiarity with its environmental and waste management programs and procedures are preferred
