Description

The Histotechnologist plays a crucial role in preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists under direct supervision. This position involves responsibilities such as creating frozen sections, paraffin mounts, cytologic preparations, and related stains. The Histotechnologist also assesses the adequacy of surgical and cytology specimens, requesting additional specimens as needed, and performs routine maintenance on instruments as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination
  • Perform frozen sections, paraffin mounts, and cytologic preparations
  • Assess adequacy of surgical and cytology specimens and request additional specimens if needed
  • Conduct routine maintenance on histology instruments as directed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience in histopathology OR one year with an Associate’s degree
  • Registered HT, ASCP or equivalent, or eligible

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institute required
  • Associate’s degree in biology or related field from an accredited institute preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in histopathology if holding a high school diploma
  • Minimum of one year of experience in histopathology with an Associate’s degree
