Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be instrumental in the design, specification, and testing of automated modified atmosphere packaging machines and systems. This role involves working with flexible film tracking, heat sealing technologies, conveying systems, product handling, and scale systems. The engineer will plan, direct, coordinate, and at times perform activities related to fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical systems, especially in a dual development and production environment.

Skills

• Proficient in CAD software for design documentation (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD or similar)
• Strong knowledge of engineering calculations (mass and energy balance, load, strength, etc.)
• Familiarity with INFOR CRM software for BOM creation
• Advanced Excel skills to create macros and streamline processes
• Good organization, communication, analytical, and project management skills
• Ability to work well in a team environment and independently

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design and engineering work on new and special products, proposals, and customer orders as assigned
• Direct work of mechanical designer/drafters when appropriate
• Specify mechanical components, materials, instrument requirements, and prepare design documentation
• Conduct quality and design conformance inspections on the manufacturing floor
• Initiate actions to resolve product configuration and performance discrepancies
• Manage projects using software like Excel, creating macros for efficiency
• Participate in special projects supporting department objectives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
• 5-10 years of related mechanical design experience
• Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes for fabricating parts in the food industry
• Experience in food packaging and line integration is preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 10%, including internationally
