The Nursing-Registered (Medical-Surgical Nursing) Instructor is responsible for theory, simulation, and clinical instruction in the Medical-Surgical Nursing course. This role encompasses curriculum organization, planning, student evaluation, and collaboration with clinical facilities to ensure a high-quality educational experience for nursing students.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Initial salary placement is based on verified educational/work experience, with an annual salary range from \(61,200 to \)93,240 for 175 days of service.
  • New faculty hires will receive independent flex credit for attending mandatory orientation.
  • Fringe benefits include a choice of several health plans, plus $50,000 Group Life Insurance and Dental Care Plan.
  • New hires will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibilities of theory, simulation, and clinical instructor.
  • Organize and plan curriculum for Medical-Surgical Nursing.
  • Supervise and evaluate nursing students during simulations and clinicals.
  • Document and discuss student performance regularly.
  • Collaborate with the lead instructor on course planning.
  • Correct clinical papers and provide constructive feedback.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in departmental functions.
  • Maintain currency in the field and apply QSEN principles.
  • Teach critical thinking as part of clinical practice.

Qualifications

  • Earned Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Possess a current California Registered Nurse License.
  • Direct patient care experience within the last five years in nursing.
  • Teaching experience related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course in nursing education.

Education Requirements

  • Earned Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Health Education or Administration.

Education Requirements Credential Category

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.

Experience Requirements

  • One year of direct patient care experience as a registered nurse in Medical-Surgical nursing or academic year of clinical teaching experience.
  • At least one year of teaching experience related to registered nursing.
