The City of Long Beach is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Police Recruit. Under immediate supervision in a non-sworn training capacity, recruits will develop the minimum qualifications required for a career in police service. Candidates will receive instruction at the Long Beach Police Academy on policies, procedures, and various essential skills necessary for effective law enforcement. This program includes training in community relations, legal standards, physical fitness, and much more.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $41.01 Hourly
  • Recruitment Incentives including a $6,000 hiring bonus
  • \(1,000 a month in housing and/or childcare subsidies for a combined total of up to \)54,000 in recruitment incentives
  • Comprehensive training through the Long Beach Police Academy

Responsibilities

  • Develop minimum qualifications for a career in police service
  • Attend training programs at the Long Beach Police Academy
  • Observe sworn police personnel in processing arrestees
  • Assist with non-sworn police support functions, including traffic and crowd control
  • Participate in various mandated courses related to law enforcement

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20.5 years of age at the time of filing
  • U.S. high school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law
  • No felony convictions or court-ordered probation

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.

Experience Requirements

  • No prior law enforcement experience is required. However, recent college coursework in related fields is desirable.
