Description
The Police Sergeant is responsible for performing supervisory, administrative, investigative, and support work within the police department. This position serves in a leadership capacity and acts as a working supervisor on an assigned shift, monitoring and assisting subordinate personnel while responding to and handling calls for service. The Sergeant resolves complex issues, manages assigned projects, aids in achieving departmental goals, ensures compliance with regulations, and protects citizens’ rights. This role includes evaluating performance, conducting remedial actions, and providing counseling to subordinates.

Compensation and Benefits
Effective 07/01/26, the monthly base salary will range from \(8,592.00 to \)10,966. Placement in the salary range may depend on qualifications and experience. Additional financial incentives are available for qualifying employees.

Education Requirements
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by two years of college-level coursework in criminal justice or a related field.
Education Requirements Credential Category
High School Diploma or equivalent, with additional coursework in relevant fields.
Experience Requirements
Three years of increasingly responsible experience as a police officer, with five years preferred. Must be off probation and possess a valid driver’s license, along with DPSST Supervisory Certification or the ability to obtain it within twelve months.
