Responsibilities

  • Serve as a team member or leader on various types of surveys for long-term care and non-long-term care facilities
  • Conduct on-site surveys of Medicare-Medicaid certified health care facilities
  • Prepare for surveys through off-site preparation, facility tours, observation, record review, and interviews
  • Evaluate quality of care, consumer rights, and the physical plant of healthcare facilities
  • Communicate non-compliance issues to key personnel and confirm understanding of deficiencies
  • Conduct follow-up visits and monitoring surveys to ensure compliance with plans of correction
  • Assist with facility and bureau training and participate in work groups as needed

Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Must have successfully completed CMS’s Long-Term Care Basic Training and passed the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT)
  • At least two (2) years of recent experience as a surveyor in long-term care
  • Must maintain current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • At least 2 years of experience in accrediting or certifying facilities for long-term care
