Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for managing finance and accounting functions for various projects and programs, serving as an advisor and financial analyst. Key Responsibilities: Be the financial expert: Manage contracts, grants, and fiscal sponsor relationships by preparing financial statements, ensuring budget accuracy, and providing prompt responses to inquiries. Budgeting and forecasting: Prepare budgets, analysis, and forecasts for assigned projects, ensuring financial stability and effective resource allocation. Collaborative liaison: Act as the primary point of contact between Finance and assigned cost centers, programs, and projects, fostering strong working relationships and effective communication. Financial oversight: Review costing allocations, conduct revenue recognition, and provide support for Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable functions. Ensure compliance: Assist in managing balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations, and support the annual audit process. Relationship building: Cultivate internal and external relationships, representing the organization and actively contributing to business development opportunities. Collaborative teamwork: Embrace shared leadership principles, promote organizational values, and contribute to team efforts by taking on additional projects and tasks. Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in at least two areas of accounting. Possession of relevant professional credentials, certifications, or advanced degrees. Experience supervising and training entry-level accounting staff. Minimum of five years of grant, project, and/or cost accounting experience. Minimum of three years of non-profit accounting experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Proficiency in working with integrated accounting systems. Understanding of revenue recognition rules. Familiarity with Workday and Adaptive Planning systems preferred. Grant and/or fund accounting experience is a plus. Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships. Strong problem-solving and logical thinking abilities. Effective time management and task prioritization skills. Proficiency in remote work and familiarity with various technology platforms. Minimum of five years of related work experience. Minimum of two years of grant, project, and/or costing accounting experience. Experience in an educational or non-profit environment preferred. Familiarity with the Community College System is a plus. Working Hours, Location, and Travel: This is a full-time position with flexibility for remote work or in-person at our Sacramento office. The role may require moderate travel for essential meetings and conferences. Physical Requirements: Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods. Proficiency in operating office equipment. Effective communication skills.
