UCLA’s Water Technology Research (WaTeR) Center is seeking an experienced technician/engineer to join our team. This position will focus on the design, assembly, and operation of small reverse osmosis (RO) systems for brackish water treatment and desalination. The WaTeR Center specializes in creating innovative wellhead RO systems for distributed water purification. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge in RO systems operation, monitoring, and control systems, and will engage with component vendors and system fabricators, conduct laboratory and field tests, and oversee the field deployment of multiple RO systems. This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a globally recognized water technology program while collaborating with various water agencies and industry leaders.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay ranges from \(60,000.00 to \)95,000.00 per year, determined by experience and qualifications. This full-time position also allows for part-time opportunities.

Skills

  • Knowledge of reverse osmosis (RO) systems operation and monitoring
  • Experience with control systems (e.g., PLC and LabView)
  • Strong ability to interact with vendors and system fabricators
  • Proficiency in conducting laboratory and field tests
  • Experience in field deployment and oversight of water treatment systems

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and field deployment of small new RO/NF systems (2,000 - 10,000 gallons/day)
  • Collaborate on membrane-based separation system development and integrated monitoring/control systems
  • Oversee/manage 3-4 water treatment and desalination field systems
  • Assist in preparing operational reports and liaising with State certified laboratories and regulators
  • Provide systems support for WaTeR Center team members

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with membrane-based water treatment/desalination systems (capacity of 1,000 - 40,000 gallons/day) including feed pre-treatment and product water post-treatment/disinfection
  • Experience with process control systems (hardware and software), including LabView, is a strong asset

Education Requirements

  • An advanced degree in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field
